Day 6 Arguments: 5 September 2019
On 10 May, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended appointing Justice Akil Kureshi as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The Union Law Ministry did not respond and on 10 June appointed Justice SK Jha as the 'Acting Chief Justice'. A month later, the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association (GHCAA) filed a PIL praying for the immediate appointment of Chief Justice Akil Kureshi. The matter was repeatedly adjourned upon the request of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. Finally, on 28 August, the Chief Justice stated that he had received a letter from the Union Law Ministry.
Today, the Chief Justice stated that the Collegium would meet at 1.45 PM to discuss the letter. The matter has been adjourned to next week.
