Ayodhya Title Dispute

CJI Gogoi adjourned the hearing until 10th January. He stated that the appropriate three-judge Bench will hear the case and pass further orders in the next hearing. Meaning, CJI Gogoi will form the Bench prior to the next hearing, under his administrative functioning.

 

The Supreme Court is hearing an appeal to the Allahabad High Court judgment, which divided the Ayodhya Title between the Hindu Maha Sabha, the Sunni Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara. In September 2018, the Supreme Court judged that it would resolve the matter merely as a land dispute and not reconsider Ismail FaruquiIn Ismail Faruqui, it held that the State had legitimately acquired the Ayodhya land in 1993 because in matters of State land acquisition, mosques are not an essential feature of Islam.

 

The Supreme Court adjourned the matter to January 10th 2018.
