Today, a nine-judge Bench of the Supreme Court will hear submissions on the correctness of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board v. R. Rajappa (1978), which gave an expansive definition to “industry” under Section 2(j) of the Act.

Yesterday, the Court heard submissions from Attorney General R. Venkataramani, Additional Solicitor General K.M. Natraj and Senior Advocate Shekhar Naphade on the “triple test” and the test to determine “sovereign function”, which may be exempted under the scope of “industry”.

Senior Advocate Sanajya Hegde is expected to begin arguments for the state of Karnataka.
