Supreme Court Observer (SCO) is one of India’s leading legal journalism websites that produces high quality reports and analyses of the Indian judiciary. We track important cases, access and share legal documents, produce daily reports of court proceedings and analyse key decisions of the Indian judiciary into a highly informative but easy read. Our aim is to enable common citizens to develop an understanding of the role of the judiciary in Indian public life, through fast-paced reporting and rigorous research.

About the role

The Social Media Editor will

  • Develop a distinct and sharp social media voice for SCO. The Associate will devise strategies for a curated, interactive social media presence for SCO.
  • Plan, edit and schedule social-media content for SCO across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and any other social-media platforms. This includes developing  exclusive content for social-media channels along with the editorial team.
  • Write and edit newsletters, and manage their delivery.
  • Edit multimedia reports and photographs, and design templates for social media.
  • Manage SCO’s social-media accounts and newsletters, as well as digital platforms for analytics, user/member engagement, etc.
  • In coordination with the editorial team, develop and implement strategies to continually grow website readership, social-media and newsletter engagement, and build a subscriber base, using current and archival content.
  • Lead campaigns to expand SCO’s social-media outreach and build a subscriber base, using current and archival content.
  • Analyse SCO’s audience and develop strategies to better reach and serve it.
  • Designing visuals and infographics to accompany the articles and reports published by the SCO Team.
  • Engaging with readers’ and subscribers’ comments and responses.

The role is based out of SCO’s office in Bangalore. Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and proven ability. Candidates from marginalised social groups are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

Candidates with experience in journalism are preferred. Knowledge of design and familiarity with Adobe Photoshop is a bonus.

Applicants should be familiar with social-media platforms and analytical tools such as Google Analytics, Tweetdeck, Facebook Creator Studio and HootSuite.

Our ideal candidate is an individual who is passionate about the Supreme Court’s work and its impact on India’s constitutional democracy and committed to communicating this to the public at large. They should exhibit sound editorial judgement while also possessing a keen design eye.
