After a hiatus of more than three months, the petitions today came up before the bench consisting of Justices L Nageswara Rao and Deepak Gupta. As may be recalled, on the last date of hearing, the Court had accepted Facebook’s request to transfer various similar pending petitions to the Supreme Court. Thereafter, the Union had undertaken to frame guidelines to regulate internet intermediaries. Also note that a number of petitions, including the one challenging the amendment to the Aadhaar Act by way of an ordinance, were tagged.

When the matter was taken up, Sr.Adv.Arvind Datar, appearing for WhatsApp, submitted that certain documents related to the petitions transferred from the Madras High Court were yet to reach the Court registry. Upon hearing the submission, the Bench directed that the documents be summoned and the petitions be listed two weeks later.
