Aadhaar Hearings: % of Time Allocated to Each Counsel
The percentage of time granted to each counsel in the Aadhar Act hearing.
The Supreme Court heard the petition on the Constitutionality of the Aadhaar Act for a historic 38 days. Last week, on September 26th 2018, the Court delivered its verdict. A 4:1 majority upheld the Act as constitutional.
Interestingly, during the course of the hearings, there was a high degree of variance between the amount of time allocated to each counsel to present arguments, which didn’t necessarily align with the complexity nor novelty of the arguments made by each counsel. Below is the list of counsels who presented arguments and how much they time they were each given to speak:
-S Divan: 20%
-KK Venugopal: 15%
-R Dwivedi: 13%
-G Subramanium: 13%
-K Sibal: 7%
-All other 17 counsels*: 32%
*These counsels each got an average of 1.88%. Notable advocates amongst these 17 include, Anand Grover, Jayna Kothari, Meenakshi Arora and Sanjay Hegde.
