Supreme Court Summer Vacation 2019

The Supreme Court's annual summer vacation is about to begin. Here are the constituted vacation benches, which will hear only urgent cases.

The Supreme Court’s annual summer vacation begins on 13th May. The Court will re-open on 1st July. During the summer vacation session, the Court will only hear urgent cases.

The Registrar divides the vacation into three parts: May 13th – 28th; May 29th – June 13th; and June 14th – 30th. A series of two judge Division Benches will hear urgent cases during each period, the compositions of which are listed below. Note that Chief Justice Gogoi will sit on the Bench hearing cases from 25th May until 30th May. It is unusual for the Chief Justice to lead Benches during the summer vacation. It appears that the Court had in mind the general elections, given that the election results are due at the end of May.
