Early life and education
Justice Alok Aradhe was born on 13 April 1964 in Raipur. He pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Science and went on to study law.
Career as a lawyer
Justice Aradhe enrolled as an advocate and began his practice at the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Jabalpur, in 1988.
His expertise included civil, constitutional, arbitration and company law matters. Justice Aradhe contributed to revising the fifth and sixth editions of Principles of Administrative Law by M.P. Jain and S.N. Jain, as well as the 15th edition of Principles of Statutory Interpretation by the late Justice G.P. Singh, former Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Career as a judge
Justice Aradhe began his judicial career as an Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on 29 December 2009. He became a permanent judge on 15 February 2011.
On 16 September 2016, Justice Aradhe was transferred to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on 16 September 2016, where he served as Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy and Executive Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority. He held the position of Acting Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court starting 11 May 2018.
After two years, Justice Aradhe was transferred to the Karnataka High Court on 17 November 2018. He became the Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on 3 July 2022 after the retirement of Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi.
On 23 July 2023, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court. Later, Justice Aradhe was transferred as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court on 21 January 2025.
On 25 August 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice B. R. Gavai, recommended his appointment as a judge of the Supreme Court of India. The Union cleared his name and that of Justice Vipul Panchouli on 27 August 2025. Justice Aradhe’s elevation brings the Supreme Court to its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges.
Justice Aradhe will retire on 3 April 2029 after serving a tenure of over three years at the top court.
