SC Order – Transfer of NRC Coordinator

On August 31st 2019, the Office of the State Coordinator published the final National Register of Citizens (NRC), excluding 19 lakh persons. Today, a special bench composed of CJI Gogoi, Bobde and Justice Nariman JJ directed the Union to transfer Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) State Coordinator, Prateek Hajela, to the State of Madhya Pradesh.
Attorney General K.K. Venugopal inquired whether there was a reason for the transfer. CJI Gogoi observed that all orders have a basis, but declined to detail what this basis may be.
