Day 2 Arguments

Narendra Modi’s Biopic Release

April 22nd 2019

A 3 Judge Bench of the Supreme Court is hearing a challenge to the order passed by the Election Commission of India stalling the release of the PM Narendra Modi biopic, in view of the operation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

In today’s hearing, the counsel for the Election Commission informed the Bench comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Deepak Gupta, and Justice Sanjiv Khanna that the Election Commission had viewed the film and submitted its report in a sealed cover to the Court. Note that on the previous date of hearing, the Court had directed the Election Commission to first view the film and then finalize its decision regarding the release of the film by Friday (19.04.2019) and inform the result to the Court in a sealed cover. The Court today took on record the report of the Election Commission and directed that a copy of the same be supplied to the petitioners upon a request being made by Mr. Mukul Rohatgi, counsel for the Petitioners.

The case will now be heard by the Bench on Friday, April 26th.
