Urgent Mention: 8 August 2019
The Court declined to urgently hear Manohar Lal Sharma’s petition challenging Presidential Order CO 272, which indirectly amends Article 370. Justice NV Ramana also directed ML Sharma to cure the defects in his petition. Note that the matter was urgently mentioned before Justice Ramana because the two judges more senior than him – Chief Justice R Gogoi and Justice SA Bobde – were hearing the Ayodhya matter.
In addition, a separate petition pertaining to the situation in Jammu and Kashmir was also mentioned before Justice NV Ramana. Tehseen Poonawalla has filed a petition against the shutdown of services and curfew in Jammu and Kashmir. Justice Ramana stated he would place it before Chief Justice Gogoi.
