Today, a nine-judge Bench comprising CJI Surya Kant and Justices B.V. Nagarathna, P.S. Narasimha, Dipankar Datta, Ujjal Bhuyan, S.C. Sharma, Joymalya Bagchi, Alok Aradhe and Vipul M. Pancholi will hear arguments on the scope of “industry”. The Bench will also revisit its decision in Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board v R. Rajappa.
In February 2026, a Bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant listed the matter for final arguments, nine-years after it was referred to a nine-judge bench.
