Delhi CEC Protests | Supreme Court to hear Contempt and Habeas Corpus petitions
The Supreme Court shall hear contempt and Habeas Corpus petitions following the protests against CEC in Delhi
The Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi will hear a batch of petitions alleging contempt of court against concerned authorities over closure of metro and rail services before and on 10 October, as Delhi witnessed protests against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
This is closely followed by several other petitions that allege en masse detention of students, journalists and advocates by the Delhi police. This includes Manoj Kumar Jha’s petition, that alleges disproportionate force and harassment of women protesters and the Supreme Court Bar Association petition that seeks a status report on the detention of lawyers near the Court.
